Anthony Twofeathers Colegrove bands a fledgling Northern Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis caurina). He is a member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe and second-generation research assistant to Mark Higley, a biologist for the Hoopa Valley Tribe in northern California. Before him, Colegrove's father assisted on these endeavors. The endangered owl is one of the latest species to show significant impacts from trespass marijuana grows. Recent studies by Higley and Dr. Mourad Gabriel, showed that 70 percent of northern spotted owls tested came back positive for exposure to rodenticides. This image was shot in color and converted to black and white to match the look and feel of the broader infrared story.
