It's very clear that this land has been logged, but this landscape represents forested land in the process of being managed to support northern spotted owls. The logging is much more patchy, the timber company (Green Diamond Resource Company) leaves older growth trees and more diverse trees as part of a more complex network of stands, and even clearcut areas remain small, never exceeding more than a few dozen acres in a particular area. The companies purposely leave networks of deadfall to act as refugia for an array of wildlife that use the piles as cover through the forest. The hills in the background are also timber lands representing regrowth and selective harvest.
