Like the Madonna and child, a Chinese crested tern touches beaks with its chick from a cradled pose. Donald Lyons said this particular gesture could be a form of bonding between parent and offspring as it appeared to serve no other purpose. This photo was take from a short distance using a remotely triggered camera and 50 mm lens with no artificial light. The birds accepted it as just another object in their space. Though it and I got pooped on a lot in the process of making these images.
